Mission

Head Start provides families with young children the emotional, physical, and academic support to become more self-sufficient and prepare their children for school. Head Start supports MRDC’s vision for a strong, sustainable rural Maryland by providing comprehensive family support services and high-quality early learning experiences for low-income families with children ages three through five.

Program Overview

Head Start is a federally funded, community-based program provided at no cost to eligible families, offering:

Monday through Friday, full-day early education in our centers throughout the school year
transportation to and from school in some locations (Greensboro, Federalsburg, and Cecilton)
family workshops and socialization opportunities
parenting education

family wellness development
family goal-setting
breakfast, lunch, and snack served daily
assistance connecting to community resources

Eligibility/Application

Families may be eligible for Head Start services if any of the following is true

family income is equal to or falls below federal poverty guidelines
the child will be 3 or 4 years old before September 1
the family/child is homeless

the family receives SNAP benefits
the family/child is in foster care or kinship care
